Lent began on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. Central’s focus this season is Bible Study with three opportunities to engage with God’s Word each week.
Here are the activities that can make your lenten journey a time of growth and discovery:
Blessings Diary … available in the Church Office. Use the diary during Lent to make note every day of the blessings and God-sightings in your life. “Saw a robin today. Thank you, God!” Make it as simple or as full as you wish. It’s your diary!
Bible in 90 Days … daily readings at home and weekly sharing with friends at church. A $14 Bible Companion is available for those who wish to have one. It contains 2-page reviews of each book of the Bible. Contact Kay DeMoss to order one. The weekly check-ins are led by Pastor Gary with identical sessions on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in parish hall and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm in Room 209. Make it all the way from Genesis to Revelation by reading 12 pages each day. Church School for children at 9:30 am on Sunday will share “Thirteen really bad days and how God fixed them.”
Taize Worship … on Wednesday evenings at 7:30-8:00 pm following the Bible Challenge Check-In. A time to quiet the soul with prayer, candlelight, singing, scripture, holy communion and silence.
UMW Lenten Luncheon ... is Saturday, March 27, at noon. This Central tradition goes back over 60 years. Chaplain Jan Johnson will share an Easter meditation, “We’ll take it from there.” Karen Johnson will share special music. Tickets are $10 and will go on sale starting March 7. No tickets will be available at the door. Buy them during coffee hour or from the Church Office.
Palm Sunday … Jesus walked through Jerusalem toward Calvary. Come to the Chapel at 9:30 am on March 28 and reflect on Muskegon’s own “Stations of the Cross.”
Maundy Thursday … a simple supper at 5:45 on April 1 in Parish Hall. Program at 6:30 offers a “Shower of Blessings” as we share notes from our lenten Blessing Diaries. The evening closes with Holy Communion.
Good Friday … a Tenebrae Service of scripture and hymns remembers the passion at 7 pm in the sanctuary.
Easter Sunday … celebrate the resurrection in worship. Enjoy breakfast in Parish Hall from 9:00-10:15 am served by the youth.
