Everyone wants to make a difference. Take a look at some ways that you can be a hands-on disciple for Jesus in the neighborhood and around the world.
Mission for Area People: Central has monthly commitments at Mission for Area People housed at Temple United Methodist Church in Muskegon Heights. If you want to help with MAP Supper House (next time is January 4) or at the MAP Food Pantry or Clothes Closet, contact Carol Higginson, 759-0329.
Kids’ Food Basket Muskegon: is housed right here at Central. Five hundred meals are prepared and packed every weekday for hungry school children in our city. If you are interested in helping pack sack suppers, contact KFB Muskegon Director, Cozy Thomas, at 231-286-7087. There are two shifts: Monday thru Thursday 10-11 a.m. and Monday thru Friday 1-2 p.m. . Individuals and organizations are also encouraged to donate food. Most needed items are: 100% fruit juice boxes, 100% fruit snacks, cracker packs, sliced bread, and 8# bags. Food donations can be brought to Central UMC between 12:30-2:00 daily. For more information about Kids’ Food Basket, go to their website.
Nelson School: This is the third year that Central has adopted a class at Nelson School. Our 4th grade class is taught by Dawn Roesler. Merijo Dulyea, member of our Outreach Team, is coordinating our efforts to support the teacher and children. Merijo has been in conversation with Mrs. Roesler, who says that, “students would love to have people come and hear them read. When they know people care they take reading more seriously.” The best reading time is Friday mornings between 9:30-12:30. Sign-ups will begin soon. Merijo will coordinate background checks needed by the school. Watch for more details. Take an interest in a young learner!
May Pantry: The Mission Team encourages donations of new underwear for all ages. Bishop Deborah Kiesey continues the “Seat Covers Project” at Annual Conference, an ingathering of underwear that will be distributed to clothing distribution centers around West Michigan. Bring your contribution to the Mission Room anytime during the month.
Mission Bees: our Sewing Lab is busy on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Next session is June 12, 10 am. In the meantime, kits are available to sew teacher bags for UMCOR. Pick kits up in the basket outside the chapel.
